BORIS DEBEN
Boris Deben (b.2002, Brussels) is a visual artist working with sculpture, installation, drawing, and media art.
His materials include found objects, electrical machinery, and traditional mediums like wood and plaster.
He blends these elements, infusing the objects with human-like qualities such as movement, speech, touch, and smell.
This practice challenges the viewer to rethink the identities of objects and human life, pushing beyond human capacities into abstracted essences.
Through this process, Boris explores new social logics, merging common meanings with new abilities to create evolving assemblages. Queer theory informs his exploration of identity and fluidity, allowing him to challenge conventions and reflect on his position as a maker.
Non-linearity and hybridity are central to his practice, originating in his drawings that are translated into sculptures and installations.
Boris completed his bachelor’s in Media Art at KASK (BE,Ghent) and is currently pursuing a master’s in Dirty Art at the Sandberg Institute. (NL, Amsterdam)
